Jeffersonville, Ind. – Jeffersonville Pediatrics, Clark Physicians Group has confirmed two of the first three Influenza A cases in the state of Indiana. Confirmation was received by the Indiana State Department of Health.
The confirmations coincide with National Influenza Vaccination Week which is December 4 -10, 2011. “Five hundred children have died of influenza since 2008,” says Dr. Jeb Teichman, founding partner of Jeffersonville Pediatrics. “Flu is a disease that can be prevented through vaccinations.”
Flu is more dangerous than the common cold for children. Each year, flu places a large burden on the health and well-being of children and families. An influenza vaccination is the best method for preventing flu and its potentially severe complications in children. CDC recommends that all children 6 months and older get a flu vaccine. The CDC is also urging individuals to “Take 3” action steps to fight the flu:
1. Take time to get a flu vaccine
2. Take everyday preventive actions to stop the spread of germs, such as washing your hands, covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze and not touching your eyes, nose and mouth because this is how germs spread.
3. Take flu antiviral drugs if your doctor prescribes them.
