Children’s Sexual Assault Services Program Receives Early Christmas Present From Local Organizations

Clark Memorial Hospital’s Children’s Sexual Assault Services (CSAS) program received an early Christmas present from two local organizations. Metro United Way approved a one-time grant of $35,530 and Vision Technologies donated a computer and developed a database system to support the program.

“The generosity of these two organizations will strengthen the comprehensive, specialized pediatric sexual assault services the hospital provides to child victims in the southern Indiana region,” says Debbie Browning, Women’s Health Coordinator for Clark Memorial Hospital. “We really can’t thank them enough.”

The Metro United Way grant was approved by the Clark County Community Investment Team (CIT) and will be used to provide a full time social worker to interview the child, and provide family support and advocacy. Though the CIT usually does not provide second-year funding for venture grants, the team was impressed by Clark Memorial Hospital’s efforts in making the program successful.

In addition, Vision Technologies of New Albany, Indiana donated a computer to the CSAS program and several hours of time to develop a database system. The database system will allow Clark Memorial Hospital to store information on victims and offenders and track statistical data on assaults in southern Indiana. Vision Technologies is a medical information company owned by Dr. Bradley C. Black, Randy Boehme, and Chris Flanagan.

“I just pray that this new system will aid the Children’s Sexual Assault Services program in their efforts to address the growing need of southern Indiana’s children,” says Chris Flanagan, one of the owners of Vision Technologies. “If this new system makes a positive impact on only a single child’s life, then it was more than worth our efforts.”

CSAS offers the coordination of services and advocacy for the child victim from the medical exam, through the investigation of abuse and prosecution of the perpetrator. The program also works to make the public, as well as health care professionals, aware of the issues surrounding child sexual assault.
