Clark Memorial Hospital Becomes Only Hospital in Southern Indiana Offering MRI Services for the Heart |
|
| Jeffersonville, IN – Clark
Memorial Hospital has begun offering cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
services. The new system will offer clear, precise 3-dimensional images of
the heart. The cardiac MRI tool will enable cardiologists to detect and
diagnose cardiovascular diseases earlier, giving physicians a better array
of treatment options. Click this LINK to see
an example of the MRI image. “Technological innovations, such as the cardiac MRI, change the way we diagnose and treat diseases. We can actually see how the heart functions, and whether its working to capacity. This gives us one more tool in the treatment and diagnosis of heart disease,” said Marty Denny, M.D., an interventional cardiologist. Dr. Denny trained at the National Heart and Lung Institute/Roy Brompton Hospital, which performs more than 7,000 of these images per year. Clark Memorial Hospital is the only southern Indiana hospital to offer these services. The new services are available at the main hospital and at the new diagnostic imaging center Clark Memorial Hospital will open in Sellersburg this summer. MRI technology uses radiofrequency waves to produce clear, detailed pictures of internal organs and tissues, which allows physicians to evaluate body structures that aren’t always available through other imaging methods. MRI technology gives physicians a non-invasive tool to look closely at the structure and function of the heart and its major vessels quickly and thoroughly. Physicians can determine such information as the amount of damage after a heart attack, the size and thickness of the chambers, the presence or absence of ischemia, the function of the valves and an assessment for clots (thrombi and tumors). All of these can indicate the appearance and progression of cardiac disease without ionizing radiation, which means we can perform multiple images of the coronary arteries. “Healing begins at Clark Memorial Hospital,” said Martin Padgett, Chief Executive Officer. “We are investing in this type of technology because we can detect and treat diseases earlier. That can only mean better health and lifestyle for our patients.” Images of the MRI technology are available on request. |
