A family practice provides complete, ongoing health care for you and your family from infants to the elderly, and ever stage of life in between.

A family practice emphasizes preventative care and a long-term relationship between you and your physician -- a relationship that distinguishes a family practice from other specialties.

After graduating from medical school, family physicians complete a three-year residency where they receive inpatient and outpatient training in pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, psychiatry and neurology, surgery and community medicine, along with instruction in many other areas.

This extensive training makes family physicians the only specialists qualified to treat most ailments and provide comprehensive health care for people of all ages, from newborns to seniors. They deliver a wide spectrum of acute, chronic and preventive medical care services, and provide primary care for the nation's most serious health problems, from heart disease, stroke or hypertension to diabetes, cancer or asthma.
