For most hospitals, it is customary to take a photograph of a newborn as a special memento for the proud parents. But what happens when you get those photos back two weeks later and your baby’s eyes are closed or the quality of the picture is not good? The moment is lost and you are usually stuck with bad pictures. However, Clark Memorial Hospital has unveiled a new, innovative product that will not only ensure every picture is exactly what you want, but can deliver superior quality photos before you even leave the hospital. The new technology is called the Power Photo Baby Kiosk and was developed by Power Interactive Media, Inc. of Ontario, Canada. The kiosk incorporates on-site picture production capabilities with digitally enhanced backdrops and themes that can be added to the baby’s photo. “We are very excited about this new kiosk for several reasons,” said Sue Cravens-Phillips, director of women’s health education for Clark Memorial Hospital. “This sophisticated technology provides a simple-to-operate system for our hospital staff. It also combines a state-of-the art quality product with immediate availability, lending another positive note to the experience of our birthing families at this very special time in their lives”. Clark Memorial Hospital was chosen as a test pilot for the new technology through a special agreement with Power Interactive Media, Inc. According to Cravens-Phillips, the relationship has been a success. “Our parents are just amazed at the quality of the photos that they receive,” she said. “We have had 100 percent satisfaction from everyone who has used it.” To use the machine, the baby is placed in a special bed on one side of the kiosk. Then, by using the touch screen computer, the nurse is able to position the overhead camera so that the baby is perfectly centered in the frame. After the photo has been taken, it can be previewed to ensure that the baby’s eyes were open or that he/she did not move out of the frame. The nurse can retake the baby’s picture as many times as needed to ensure a quality photo. “The three features that make our kiosk special are its versatility, immediate feedback and on-the-spot delivery,” says Terry Cooke, President & CEO of Power Interactive Media, Inc. “The Baby Kiosk provides parents with the ability to immediately view their proofs. Once the parents make their selection, our goal is to have the high quality color pictures of their baby delivered to the proud parents within hours. We also provide digital image manipulation capability that puts the baby’s picture into a variety of general and occasion-specific backgrounds. For example, we can make the baby a Teddy Bear, a Christmas tree ornament, etc.” Power Interactive Media, Inc. is a development stage company incorporated in Florida and headquartered in Markham, Ontario, which produces and markets interactive multimedia kiosks. Starting next year, the company anticipates rolling out over 150 Power Baby Kiosks throughout the United States. |
