“About five years ago I discovered a lump in my left breast. With all of my Indian beliefs and herbal knowledge, I knew in my heart this was a situation that was beyond my ability to heal myself. With God’s guidance, the knowledge and education of a good hospital (Clark Memorial Hospital), their doctors and their breast awareness programs, my lump was not a life-threatening situation. The spinning in my mind, the prayers in my heart and the importance of breast awareness still remain with me. When I entered the 2001 Breast Cancer Awareness Art Contest, this is what was running through my mind: The spinning desperation of the unknown, nakedness of my soul, prayers in my heart, warmth of courage, and the importance of breast awareness.”
