DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING
TECHNOLOGY
Clark
Memorial Hospital uses the latest technology to diagnose, treat, and
prevent cancer. Our mobile
Positron Emission Tomography scanner
(P.E.T.) can pinpoint the area of a tumor. It provides an image that
helps determine if the cells are growing or changing in shape,
usually predicting if it is cancerous. Also, it can determine
whether or not chemotherapy treatments have affected the tumor and
if the cancer has spread.
Our GE Light Speed Ultra CT
Scanner can take up to eight images at one time, or 16 images a
second. This new technology is more advanced than the typical
4-slice technology and provides greater detailed images for easier
diagnosis. The GE Light Speed Ultra is much faster than conventional
CT Scanners.
The Walter and Hazel Bales
Womens Imaging Center at Clark Memorial Hospital has three
mammography suites offering the latest in diagnostic imaging. Each
system produces clear x-rays of the breast tissue to detect lumps
too small to be felt by self-examination. The Center also has two
ultrasound units that are fully accredited with the American College
of Radiology (ACR) for further diagnostic analysis. To determine the
presence of cancer, Clark Memorial uses the Mammotome System to
perform stereotactic breast biopsies. The Mammotome System is the
least invasive of all breast cancer detection procedures and is
effective in determining if a lump is benign or malignant.

The hospital also utilizes
Endoscopy, MRI, and Spiral CT Scanner services to diagnose cancer.
