Hospital Services

The Family Birth Place

Clark Memorial Hospital has renovated the 5th floor labor and delivery facility with a state-of-the-art design that includes seven labor and delivery suites, four triage rooms and an expanded nurse's station.

New Facilities With A Focus on Privacy

The spacious delivery rooms and in-room family waiting areas give the Family Birth Place an ambience of a luxury suite at a resort hotel more than a hospital. In addition, several of the suites include a garden tub in the spacious bath. The expansion has extended to the 4th floor where mother/baby and new nursery facilities are located.

Expanded Team Suited To Specialized Care

To serve the community's expanded needs, Clark Memorial Hospital has added two female OB/GYN physicians to our current staff for a total of seven. The hospital continues to offer the services of a certified nurse midwife as well as alternative birthing solutions.

Conversation, Education and Lactation

The renovation includes expanded areas for the Breastfeeding Center, a retail center helping families start the process of breastfeeding for their newborn. With three certified lactation consultants and a labor and delivery educator on hand, patients will be able to ask questions regarding breastfeeding and newborn care.

The Family Birth Place is equipped with ClarkVision, an educational television system that allows you and your partner to access information 24 hours a day on a variety of topics. For instance, if you would like a refresher course on breastfeeding or infant care, you can access that specific presentation and watch it at any time and as often as you need.

The personal attention and care your new family receives will not stop after you leave the hospital. We encourage you to bring your baby back for a weight check or to discuss any breastfeeding issues with the lactation consultant in The Breastfeeding Center . In addition, a doctor can request Southern Home Care, the home health care division of Clark Memorial Hospital, to send a specially trained mother/baby nurse to provide continued instruction and support for you.

Classes For Expectant Parents

We encourage you and your partner to participate in one  of the free classes for expectant mothers and fathers, or a refresher course for experienced parents. Clark Memorial Hospital offers personal instruction through a wide selection of educational programs to make the birth as easy as possible. See the Family Birth Place Class Schedule   for a listing of our classes.

Mother-Baby Care

After your baby has arrived, you will stay in The Family Birth Place. A nurse will care for both you and your baby in one private room. This personal care provides for better communication between the staff and family. This allows individual instruction to ensure you are comfortable caring for yourself and your new baby at home.

Our personal touch is what sets the Family Birth Place apart. If you are going to have a baby, or are thinking about having one, we invite you to visit the Family Birth Place. Clark Memorial Hospital… Where Babies Come From.
