1940s
1939, the theme of the New York World Fair was ‘Building the World of Tomorrow.’ People were looking forward to better times. Roosevelt initiated his “New Deal,” distributing federal money into countless programs to stimulate the nation. In 1941, the Federal Works Agency approved a grant for badly needed expansion at the hospital from 35 to 85 beds.
