1950s
Despite more than doubling the space, the hospital needed to be expanded again by the 1950s. The population in Clark County grew rapidly, especially with the flurry of births that would herald the Baby Boomer generation. Almost a thousand babies were born in 1953. Clark memorial was almost too successful – more expansion was needed.
Congress passed legislation that set aside money for hospital construction, to modernize the health care facilities of the United States. The community rallied around the hospital, raising $50,000 more than their goal during the campaign. Two wings were added to the hospital, again doubling the total number of beds.

Clark County Memorial Hospital’s new $1,335,000 wings were formally dedicated May 17 at Indiana University Center. Hospital tours followed the ceremony.
