iAt Clark Memorial Health - Sellersburg, we offer 3D mammography, the latest technology, for detecting breast cancer early. One in eight women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Regular mammograms starting at age 40 are essential to early detection and successfully fighting breast cancer. In fact, with early detection, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer is 100 percent. We also offer ultrasound imaging of the breast to aid in the diagnosis of breast lumps and other abnormalities.
3D mammography follows the same basic procedure you’re probably accustomed to with regular 2D digital mammography. 3D mammography uses advanced technology to take digital images of your breast from different angles. Software combines the images to create a more complete and detailed image than is possible with regular 2D digital mammography. 3D imaging takes a few seconds longer, slightly extending the time of minor discomfort you may feel and the low-risk radiation exposure involved with all forms of digital mammography.
3D mammography is particularly effective if you have dense breast tissue or have had a previous cancer or lesion diagnosis. It also gives you greater peace of mind. A 3D image allows us to detect breast cancer earlier, which means we can sooner help you start fighting it sooner. 3D mammography's greater accuracy also results in fewer unnecessary return visits to the doctor for false positives that turn out to be non-cancerous.
